Can you give me some advice on this car accident issue?
I backed into a car over on June 26th, 2007. It is a 2000 cavalier. I dented the rear left quarter panel (pretty good) and scraped the bumper ( paint damage ). The car already had significant damage on the other side.
So a young boy was outside and said, “Its okay, its my moms friends car and shes taking it to the dump tomorrow.”
So asked him to get his mom and she came down and said, “Thats my girlfriends car, she wont be mad, she’s taking it to the dump tomorrow.”
I told her to send her to my house if she needed anything or whatever. So 2 days later the woman came to my house saying that she is getting it fixed for her son who just got his license.
She said she would get an estimate that weekend. So today (over a month later) she brings me an estimate for over $1300! I feel I may be getting scammed. And now it may be too late to report it! What should I do?
Report it. It’s not too late.
But she’s entitled to the lesser of the cost of repairs, or the actual cash value of the car, and she’ll get it. Even if her intention is to bring the car to the dump.
