I bought a 2007 Toyota corolla in January of 2007. I noticed two rusting nuts underneath the front part of the car. I took it to the dealership and was told that the salt air in Japan caused some rusting in the nuts and that it didn’t really pose a problem. I also noticed a rust spot in the middle portion of the front (underneath) as if it has been scratched. The dealership replaced the nuts and painted over them. Question: is this normal for a new car to develop rust in a climate not known to be sea-like or have harsh winters? BTW, I live in Atlanta, GA. I have had this car for about 18 months and hope to keep it for a decade. Are all imported cars like this in regards to the rust issue?
yes, many new cars develop rust spots on the little car parts such as bolts and nuts. don’t worry your car paint and body are better coated and protected from the element so they don’t usually rust unless there’s a scratch. the little things are not be worried about and they are hidden anyways.
