how much and where to cherry out my wifes 1965 mustang?
My wifes birthday is coming up and I have a fair amount of money saved up. For her birthday I want to not nesecarrily cherry out her mustang, but I would like to make it very nice. Its rusty on the hood and a few spots around the car so i need to paint. the interior is about a 6/10. Her father began fixing the interior, but quit, so its half way finished. the inside of the door is gone and the instrument panel looks crappy. The gas gauge or speed gauge dont work. When you hit the breaks, it pulls to the right. When it is at a stop, it sometimes sounds like its on the verge of dying, and overall its too loud. Not in the good old “Mustang” version of loud but in the, “i have a crappy old car” version of loud. I would like to fix all the problems, make it look nice, and maybe add some ammenities. So any guesses on prices and suggestions of what kind of good companies in Southern California would be GREAT!!!! thanks.
You have a ton of great options in SoCal. Foose would be great as mentioned, but it will be a radical looking show car that definitely turns heads, but also cost about 6 figures. If you want to make it a little nicer than factory condition, here’s what I would do.
Paint and body work to fix the rust and any dents. This can be done by even Maaco. Yeah, I dog them for doing crappy work, but that’s on their $200 jobs. $1500 should be able to get you a very nice single color job at just about any decent shop.
Interior, take it to a shop that employs illegals. I’m serious. I’m no fan of illegal immigration, but their prices are cheap and they do quality work quickly. Just tell them what you want done and a week later you have a hand formed dashboard covered in leather with stainless steel accents. Ask me how I know. ![]()
Engine, any good shop that can work on carburated cars. Probably just needs some tune up work or something fairly simple (that entire engine is simple!). Gauges will probably be fixed within an hour. Then hit an exhaust shop for a good muscle car system.
Also something you might want to consider: wheels. Wheels, rimz, blades, etc really set the car off. Get something along the lines of the old rally wheels, but bigger (like 17 inch American Racing Torq Thrust 2’s for example). That would give it an awesome finished and up to date, yet still classic look.
Good luck!
