Spray-painting a vehicle ….. tips needed….?
I am wanting to spray-paint my vehicle boot and roof as it has faded heaps compared to the rest of the car. I’m more of a DYI sorta shelia and need some tips…
I can take the petrol flap off for someone to match the paint yes?
How much paint would I need?
What or how do I prime or prepare before I paint?
Is using an airless paint sprayer ok for a home job?
I know it wont be perfect, but I’m not going to pay a couple thousand for something I should be able to do for a fraction of the cost.

1) Around 4 cans per layer would suffice.
2) You need to wash the car with dishwashing soap to remove any contaminants and clay it.
3) Sand the areas first, better if you can sand to the primer and apply a new primer, if not just go ahead and paint on it.
4) Sprayer would work, but you’ll need to cover other areas you don’t want the paint to get on (the paint will fly all over the place… 100% guaranteed).
5) Since car body size differs, if you only used 3 cans then get another 3 cans for the 2nd layer, etc. Before doing the 2nd layer, sand it again to get a smooth texture.
6) After painting and letting the final layer dry, sand with a 600 grit sandpaper, apply polish and later wax.
Remember, how you handle the sprayer will determine how nice the paint will come out. So practice first.
