What should I look for when looking to buy a jeep wrangle TJ?
alright I’ve always wanted a jeep wrangler. I’m heavy into cars I own a 89 bmw e30 m50 swapped, a 91 camaro z28 under complete restoration. I’m not new to cars and their problems, But I’m new to jeep. I dont know what to be careful of I have decided I want a 4.0l 5speed for sure. No exceptions on that. as for the top I’m not picky Ill take a hardtop or a softtop. same for doors half or full. But what are common problems? Any typical rust areas on the tj? I dont want to look like some idiot when going to look at one of these so all the information I can get would really help.
They don’t typically have bad rust problems but give it a good look under the wheel wells, the bottoms of the doors, under the carpet and check the frame rails. If buying a soft top look for torn seams and dry rotting of the top. The only common mechanical problem I am aware of is that the exhaust manifolds will crack, so check the manifold for cracks and leaks, but honestly this happens to all of them eventually, they make an aftermarket manifold that doesn’t crack so bad.
