how should i fix my paint?
my 87 IROC-Z camaro has been sitting out in the horrible oregon weather for over 4yrs with no cover which i soooo which i didnt that to her and i dont have enough money to get her fixed so in the midtime i wanna fix up the paint its a median blue paint from 87 and its got faded over the years and about 3monthes ago i waxed her for the first time and wht i did was wash/clay/wax and then used color restoration but im not sure what order i should do this in so wht is it? also is there any other products tht’ll help the paint at all? its gotta be a decent price not expensive but not cheap like the higher class turtle wax stuff. i use turtle wax ice car wash, t wax ice liquid clay, t wax ice liquid polish, and meguilars color restoration. also isnt the t wax ice polish= wax?
Im assuming by color restoration, you mean Meguiars ColorX right?
If so, the ColorX is a paint cleaner/polish/wax all in one
its is pretty mild, and although it can make things better, you will probably need more aggressive products
Correct order is:
wash
clay
paint cleaner
polish
wax
the Colorx, is all in one
so it would be
wash
clay
colorx
ice polish
and correct, even though turtle wax calls it a polish, its really a wax.
also, the turtle wax liquid clay, is junk, its more of a paint cleaner, than an actual clay bar, get a real clay bar like Meguiars Smooth surface clay kit
heres what you should do
1: wash, wash of your choice, you should know how to wash a car..
2. Meguiars clay kit, super easy to do, just read instructions
3. Meguiars Ultimate Compound, this is their strongest paint cleaner in their consumer line, and you can do this by hand. Work in about a 16×16 in area for 30-60 seconds with the product, always making sure the surface is wet with the product, and never dries, then wipe off right away, and inspect, may need to do a couple passes. I recommend terry cloth for this step, since its more aggressive
4. you can either apply a pure polish here, or not. Ultimate compound has polishing oils in it already, so completely up to you. I suggest Meguiars Deep Crystal polish. Just basically rub it onto your paint, in small sections, like you would applying lotion to your body, dont let dry, wipe off after your done working it in
5. wax, you can use The TW ice for this, or can get some Meguiars nxt 2.0 tech wax, doesnt matter..
should also do a test spot, tape off one secction, 16×16 in on your car
do all those steps in that spot. If you cant get that one small spot to look good
then you cant get your whole car to look good
