dodge charger restoration question…?
Hi. I Found a abandoned 1968 dodge charger. I can get it very very cheap, but its in pretty bad shape… the car hasn’t been running for years, and all the paint is gone, like I said… very bad shape but I can get it for a few dollars. Now I don’t know a thing about restoration or muscle cars in general. But If i get this car, how much will it cost me to restore it, just an ball park figure. It would definetly need some engine work also. The car definetly has potential if it would be in good shape. Is it worth it to buy it and invest money in it? Thanks
at this vary moment a buddy and I are also restoring a 68 charger. the car was in vary bad shape (rust lots of rust) and the motor (440) was shot. so far we have spent about $3000 on motor work but if your motor in in decent shape i would figure in about $1500 to $2000. the reason ours was so expensive was because the cylinders where seized and the motor had to be bored out (bigger cylinders & pistons) whitch gets exspensive. as for the body work all the floor pans had to be replaced inclueding the trunk floor(cost for all floor pieces was about $650). as for the rest of the car it needed a left front fender a right rear quarter panle a hood bolth bumpers and we also picked up all new bushings and weather stripping the cost for all of that ran us about $1500 you may be able to find some parts a little cheaper if you go to some swap meets or get lucky on ebay. we found all the exterior part at swap meets. as for the floor pans we could not find anyone who had them so we had to by them new. as for everything else its kinda up in the air with all the tools and other genral parts you need like nuts bolts and things like that
well hope this helps
